I’ve been active and an athlete all of my life. Basketball, volleyball, and track in high school. A brief basketball stint in college. Volleyball and running as an adult (until my knees turned 80 and I had to switch it up). I now have found a love cycling (distance and spin) and I love weights to tone and keep things tight and right!
If you follow me on Instagram (@accordingtoq), you know that I’m on a constant quest to get snatched. ESPECIALLY since giving birth in December. As a healthcare provider, I really believe in practicing what I preach so exercise and healthy eating are very important to me. In fact, I’ve recently embarked on a new journey along with Beyoncé and the Beyhive…vegetarian. She’s doing vegan, but vegetarian is a little more realistic for me. Feeling good from the inside creates a beautiful outside and that means we need some fly gym attire to match.
I used to be a hardcore Nike fanatic, but that Nike-only habit got real expensive real quick. I’ve never had a stitch of LuLuLemon on my body because it’s a little pricey for me, too (any LuLuLemon folks want to send me some samples to try so I can be enlightened?!??). So, there are a few places I love to buy my workout gear that won’t break the bank and are just as stylish.
Target (my #1 for most things) – basic colors and cool jackets here. They’re starting to play with pretty colors and patterns, which I love . Catch them on clearance and pay less than $10 for some things.
Old Navy – cool colors here too. Love the graphic tops. Clearance is your friend here too.
Forever 21 – discovered this in Miami. Cool tops and bottoms with cutouts and mesh. Very LuLu-esque.
Victoria’s Secret (on sale) – hands down the BEST place for sports bras if you’re a busty girl like me. I usually rack up and get them $20 or less during the semi-annual sale. I grab leggings and basic tops during the sale as well.
Nike (on sale) – performance wise, Nike is always on top for me. But I usually don’t buy until there’s an additional percent of clearance (like now) or from the outlet.
Shoes are super important, although i still try to get them on sale, I’ll splurge on them occasionally. They’re usually Nike, but I’ve had a pair of UnderArmor shoes that felt like clouds. I wore them completely out. I just got these, and I can’t wait to see how they feel tonight! .Photography :: Kim Thomas
Leggings & Top : Victoria’s Secret | Shoes : Nike Free | Jacket : Old Navy
According to Q, when you look good, you feel good, and and when you feel good, you’re more motivated to get ish done, including your workouts. With just a bit of effort, your gym life can be just as stylish as the rest of your wardrobe!
Cheers to slaying in the gym while getting snatched!
I’ve had trainers in the past and learned a lot from them. Now I put together my own workouts and I use Pinterest A LOT! My Fit & Fab board is where I save a lot of the cool workouts I find for gym and for home.
I love Nike Free! I have several pairs because they work well for me in the gym. Old Navy is my friend for workout gear. Those high-rise compression leggings are my jam! They always have a sale too – usually 40- 50% off.

I’m building a good Nike Free collection myself! And Old Navy is so good for leggings.
Hi Q,
Since I am now 60 I am trying to loss at least 40-50 pounds. I have lost 42 pounds. I have started walking now. But I have trouble with my knees. I was told when I was in my late 30s that I would have to have both knees replaced. I don’t plan to have surgery but I am having pain mostly in my left knee. Do I just keep walking? I do take medicine for arthritis. I have to me my gold.
