Mommy Moves | Keeping it Together

Nowadays, most of us are working mothers with meters always set on GO! It can be a bit overwhelming at times & things can start slacking. Work life. Home life (laundry/housework can start piling up). Gym life (this one is usually the first to go for me). And if we’re not careful, Bae can get lost in the shuffle too. So, how do we keep it all together???? Let me share a few things that I do to stay on top of my game. Let me add, when these things are not in place and I’m NOT on top of my game, I notice a HUGE difference in my mood and the operation/flow of the household. Here we go…

ORGANIZATION :: This is a big one. I’m not talking Marie Condo (although that would be great), but when everything has a place and is orderly, it’s easy to navigate the days and nights. When things are in disarray & you’re constantly searching for things, it’s harder to get things done & keep it together. This applies to parts of the home: kitchen, closets, kid’s room, bathrooms. All of it!  I spend time at the beginning, middle, and end of the year re-organizing and purging so that things stay decent and in order.  I don’t function well when things are all over the place, so this helps me stay sane and helps me develop day to day routines easier. I just purchased some bins to reorganize my pantry.  Maybe I’ll do a before and after???

ROUTINES :: Not only do kids need routines, but we moms/adults need them, too. I have a morning and nighttime routine. Of course, ladybug has routines, and my oldest just does his own thing (because we’ve had routines since he was little). Although routines take time and practice, here’s why they’re important, repetition increases productivity and saves time. When you know what to do and when things aren’t as hectic. In the mornings, I wake up about an hour and a half before everyone else wakes up. That gives me time to get things done for myself before anyone else needs me. Devotion. Makeup. Bathroom time without interruption (my fellow mommies know this is a thing). If coffee and newspapers are your things, then it would give you time to do it. And let me add that this discovery just didn’t happen overnight.  I learned when my oldest was a toddler that I was not going to be able to get him and me dressed in the mornings at the same time. Now, I even have time markers to keep my routines on track.   A good routine also saves time and you can focus on tackling the things on your To-Do List.

LISTS :: This one is simple and someone may even say DUH! It’s often overlooked so just hear me out. When you make a list, is it a mile long (10+ items)? Are the tasks specific? Are the tasks even realistic considering your schedule?? If you answered yes to any of the above, keeping reading. Listen, in order to keep things together, you have to narrow that list down sis! No more than 5 things. Make the tasks specific and consider the amount of time you’re working with. By the time the kids are asleep, you ARE NOT going to be able to complete everything on a 12 item list. There are just not enough hours in the day.  So narrow it down to the top 5 things that need to be done NOW.  And when they’re done, you’re done. You can start your nighttime routine, grab a glass of wine, catch up on a show, read a book, cuddle with the hubs/bae, whatever! But also don’t start creating other stuff to do either. We’re good for that! Truth is, there will always be something to do. That’s when you make your To-Do List for the next day. Easy, right? Try it and let me know how much better things become.

According to Q, making mommy moves & staying on top of your A-game requires a great deal of focus and discipline.  We all want our households to run more efficiently and that takes effort.  Stay At Home Moms (SAHM) are the real MVPs and are masters of multi-tasking and routines.  The rest of us have to put in the work, but I promise it’s worth it.  You won’t be as stressed and everybody is happy! Kids, Bae, Dog, and especially YOU!!!

Cheers to happy households and most importantly happy mommies!
