My life, in general, is pretty busy. I mean, a busy teenager and a busy toddler is enough, but when you add bae and an awesome career as a Nurse Practitioner + a little blogging on the side, busy is really kind of an understatement. However, in healthcare, busy is actually a good problem to have. I wanted to help people take better care of themselves and I am so blessed to be able to get to do it everyday. Some days are really amazing. I’m always learning something new. Other days are less amazing, mind-boggling, and even very frustrating, but I’m still very fortunate that I get to live out my purpose on a daily basis. Here is a look inside of a day in my life as a Rockstar NP.
4:45am | Alarm Goes Off. Time to get moving. Confession: I hit snooze this morning. Twice. You know that feeling when you’re asleep and know you’re sleeping good then the alarm wakes you up. That’s me this morning. I might have cussed a little. Oh wells. Everyone else is still asleep. It’s my me time. Devotion Time. Whatever I want to do time. Without interruption.
5:06am | Shower time. I often will add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to my shower to help wake me up.
5:40am | Make up done. Takes about 10 minutes. Remember that IGTV video I posted with my everyday routine? If not, check it out HERE.
6:15am | I’m completely dressed. The teen is heading out. Kiss him. Time to wake up ladybug. Everyone is pretty much awake and/or moving at this point, even the dog.
6:35am | Ladybug is awake and dressed and eating breakfast. I’m packing up our lunches. Also loading and starting the dishwasher.
7:16am | Car loaded and we’re out of the door semi-on time. I try to leave as close to 7am as possible but no later than 7:15am. School drop-off then head into the office. My commute is about 20-25 minutes.
7:40am | Gotta grab breakfast at Smoothie King. The Slim-n-Trim Veggie with probiotic. It’s my fave.
7:50am | At the office. When I have time, I hop on IG to say HI to my InstaFam and remind them that “It’s a great day to have a great day!” Once inside, I prep for the day by tackling a few lab results and checking out my schedule for the day. My first patient appointment is 8am, but we always have to get a good morning chuckle at my station. LOL. Starts us out on a good note.
My schedule is open for 28 patients. Today I have 22 already scheduled. They will likely add more by the end of the day.
8:27am | My first patient is ready. Time to get this party started.
9:41am | I’ve just finished up patient #5 (2 Hypertension follow ups, 1 Anxiety follow-up, 1 sinus/migraine, 1 routine follow up with refills). 2 patients are waiting. 3 just checked in. Time to put an S on my chest.
10:30am | Last patient appointment of the morning. We were running a little lot behind schedule today. Flow has been terrible. Someone decided to schedule me back-to-back hospital follow ups. Wish you could see my face. I’ve seen 11 patients so far and have 3 more to go before lunch.
12:07pm | It’s lunchtime. Finally. A breather. Sales reps often cater lunch for us. Not today though and I’m kind of glad about it. I’ll have my veggie stir fry and protein shake with some peace and quiet to decompress and regroup for the afternoon. I also use lunch time to take care of more lab results, answer patient phone calls/messages, and close out any unfinished charts.
1:03pm | First patient of the afternoon. Let’s geaux!
2:30pm | Whew chile! I need a break. There are a couple of stories here! Can’t wait to tell my InstaFam. I call them #NPChronicles.
3:34pm | All patients are here (last appointment @ 3:30pm). Woohoo! I’ve seen 23 patients at this point but have 3 to go. It’s been a day where I’ve had to tap into my inner rockstar for sure.
5:10pm | It’s quitting time. Finally finished with patients for the day. I would normally be headed to Fire Yoga, but I have to close these charts and I still have about 20 lab results to complete. I don’t like taking work home so I gotta sacrifice my gym day today to finish being a rockstar.

Wow! You are definitely a rockstar NP and superwoman (yes I said Superwoman, because you are, reminding me of Alicia Keys song ๐) and I very much understand your me time with friends along with much needed self-care time!

Thank you!!
I Love this! I often wonder how other women do it! Whatโs the routine! Now, you didnโt include workouts, laundry, cleaning, fun time (sex)… how does all of THAT fit in! Sometimes it never ends and things fall through the cracks for me. Thanks for sharing… this glimpse in your life was cool. Helps us to know how similar we are as women.
