Digital Eye Strain | Empire & Co.

The last 2-3 months have been quite interesting to say the least.  Our worlds literally changed in the blink of an eye.  We went from an analog daily life of sorts where we had the freedom to personally interact and come and go as we pleased to all digital everything.  And with that, came more screen time, more computer time, more iPad time, more phone time.  I don’t know about you, but I was shocked and appalled to get the notification that my screen time went up 20-30% for a couple of weeks.

I’m super happy that the iPhone does that so I can keep myself in check, but with that increase comes more blue light exposure.  Blue light is a part of the light spectrum with the shortest wavelength and highest energy. The human eye does not block blue light well and if it reaches the retina, damaging effects could be the result, including digital eye strain. This type of eye strain can lead to headaches, dry eye, and fatigue because high exposure to blue light disturbs the sleep-wake cycle.

I know that my vision started changing when my practice converted to the electronic medical record and I went from paper charts to computers for 8 hours a day.  I mean, I was 38, too, but I was definitely getting more blue light exposure.  If you’ve seen an OG pair of blue light blocking glasses, then you know those clunky things would never touch my face!! So, when the kind folks at Empire & Co. wanted to send me a pair that was stylish AND effective, I said sign me up!!!

I’m wearing the ‘Clarity’ because I’ve been on the hunt for a clear/transparent frame.  These are lightweight and I absolutely love the gold arms for contrast.  This particular style is flattering on all face shapes.  There are several very nice frames to choose from to “laptop to lifestyle”.  Check out the full selection HERE and use the code ATQ15 for 15% off your purchase.

According to Q, blue light exposure is inevitable these days so make sure you protect those gems with blue light blocking glasses to get more energy, less eye fatigue, and better sleep. And you may as well look fabulous while doing so!
