2020 has been full cancellations. Trips. Weddings. Sports. School. Work. All of it. And although we’ve had to celebrate in new ways, the day we were born has still come around on the calendar (Thank you Jesus!) I was determined not to let the pandemic put a damper on celebrating another year of life. Safety is definitely at the forefront of everybody’s mind, but I was in desperate need of a getaway. Here’s what I was looking for: resort-like feel with water of some sort that within driving distance or a short, direct flight. Oh and with a spa!
Here is where I found Chateau Elan Winery and Resort in Braselton, GA (about 1 hour from ATL). It had been on my radar for a few years after some friends of a friend spoke very highly of their experience. It checked all of my boxes and the best part was I found a roundtrip, direct, 45min flight for $100. I mean, everything was lining up too perfectly. There were several restaurants on site and the wine would be flowing like the rivers of water. Doesn’t get any better than this! So I went. And I’m so glad I did!!! They had all of the protocols in place including a mask requirement and electronic temperature scanners. Now, let’s get into what we did.
I was alone for a day and chose to spend it quietly at the spa and by the pool. I woke up and walked for an hour (I try to exercise to offset all of the vacay shenanigans that are sure to happen). I thoroughly enjoyed my facial and pedicure as they were pumping me full of bellinis (I wasn’t turning them down either). They knew I was there to celebrate my birthday and even gave me a birthday card from the spa staff. It’s the little things! Check out the spa menu HERE.
Exploring. My first birthday dinner. Wine tasting. I wanted some morning pool time but it was cloudy with a side of cool from a rainstorm the night before. I’ve always wanted to frolic among the grapevines. So, I did. We got ready for dinner and ventured offsite to Cotton Calf Kitchen since the onsite restaurants booked up pretty quickly. It was only 10 mins away and the food was really good! I even was surprised with a bday dessert! I was most looking forward to the wine tasting. And when I tell you it took us over the edge! Whew! That port wine! Talking about wasted! It ended up being the perfect prelude to some evening pool time. The fire pits were lit, so we grabbed the speakers and cigars and had a blast! DAY 3 (my actual birthday!)
Pool. Spa.Cooking Class. The day started with my frose’ cup overflowing by the pool. It was the perfect sunny day to relax and soak up some rays. Then another spa day, because why not? An 80 min hot stone massage for me + a hot towel facial treatment for him were on deck. The spa comes with access to an indoor pool and hot tub to use before, in between, or after services. You know we took full advantage, right? Right. The winery offers culinary classes where we, under the expert tutelage of a master chef, made a three-course meal complete with wine pairings curated by a Sommelier. Our menu for the night: Green Summer Salad (paired with Chardonnay), New York Strip with chimichurri (paired with Cabernet Sauvignon), and peaches flambe’ (made with rum and paired with Moscato). There was also champs to “cleanse our palates” at the beginning and between each course. I even made a friend and we sang songs. Can we say a lit birthday?
I’m so glad I got a chance to get away. Not just to celebrate my birthday, but most importantly to relax and recharge. Chateau Elan was everything I didn’t know I needed! 2020 has been rough, so if you feel like you need to GO! GO! Go NOW! A change of scenery would totally do you some good. Trust me! Now I’m ready to tackle the rest of 2020, even if she keeps acting like she ain’t got no sense!
There’s a Labor Day special happening at Chateau Elan that I wish I could take advantage of. You definitely should!! Tell them I sent ya! CHEERS!!!!
